Shoes… They come in all different shapes and size, but how do we know what shoes best complements each outfit? Well, today’s blog will help make these difficult decisions somewhat easier for you.
So, let’s start with the traditional derby shoe. What is a derby shoe? A derby shoe is characterized by quarters, with shoelace eyelets that are sewn on top of the vamp also known as ‘’open-lacing’’. A Derby shoes is a very formal shoe and typically worn for black tie events. Generally, the derby shoe is the most formal among the lot and looks great with both suits and formal combinations.
Loafers, or as some like to call them, the slip-on shoe. Loafers are a shoe that does not utilize a lacing or fastening system and instead, is simply slipped onto the foot. Loafers can be worn for both formal and informal events and in recent years have become the go to shoe when wearing suits. Loafers will style your outfit differently, so, try pairing them with jeans, smart shorts or cropped trousers or if you want to dress up your loafers whack on a nice suit and away you go.
The monk strap and personally my favorite of them all. A monk strap shoe can be easily identified by the way the shoe is fastened onto the foot. The monk shoe is secured onto the foot by one or more buckles and straps. It is a moderately formal shoe and is one of the most popular purchased shoe for men today. Monk straps work very well with casual wear, including denim however, #MrGuild would advise to stay away from shorts and athletic attire when wearing this style shoe.
